Nadi Attractions
So much to see, so little time. Here is a list of the best that Nadi has to offer. Some of these are within easy walking distance of the hotel. Others are just a short drive away.
FNPF Shopping Centre
. Finally… the log awaited FNPF shopping center is here in Nadi! Plagued by holdups during construction (Covid didn’t help), the complex was completed in 2021, and opened to the public.
Boasting over 50 retail outlets spread over 2 floors, you will find a wide range of shopping here. From a top class food court, to Patels supermarket.
While this might be insignificant compared to overseas shopping centres (Chadstone in Melbourne for example), it is still a major achievement for Nadi.
Take a look at some of the pictures below. Just click on an image to see fullsize.
Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple
To describe the Sri Siva temple as “colourful” would be a massive understatment. Reds blues golds, it’s a glorious mix of bright vibrant colours. And it’s only a few minutes walk from Nadi DownTown hotel.
Exit the front door of the hotel, turn left, and you can see the Sri Siva temple about 400 meters away at the end of the road.
There is a nominal entry fee to go and look around (in the vicinity of fj$5) , and they also have a great vegetarian restaurant onsite.
The temple has varying hours open to the public, it depends on what ceremonies or festivals are happening at the time.General closing time is 7pm. If you are ever in Nadi during Diwali, then you absolutely MUST go and visit. The colours, the fireworks, it’s spectacular.
Nadi Handicraft Souvenirs Market
Less than 1 block away from the hotel, you will find the handicraft market. Just exit the hotel, turn right, and walk approximately 100 meters.
A great place to get decent quality souvenirs at a good price. And of course, do haggle the prices, the vendors never start with their lowest price. Negotiation is welcome, and indeed expected here.
There is a huge range of items on offer at any one of the stalls. Clothing, kava bowls, keychains… you are sure to find a few gifts for friends back home.
For those hot days (and nearly every day is hot in Nadi!) there are plenty of shade trees and seating here. The vendors are friendly, and who knows, perhaps you will get to share a bowl of kava with some of them.
Nadi Municipal Market
A few more minutes walking gets you to the Nadi Municipal Market. Busiest day here is Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays, although there will be plenty of vendors lining the surrounds. Only the main building is closed.
A huge array of locally grown produce available at ridiculously low prices.
Tip: Do try the local bananas. They look small and green, and you might think they aren’t ripe. But actually, they are the sweetest most delicious bananas you will find anywhere. They taste nothing like the supermarket bananas in Australia. Once you have tried these ones, you might find it hard to go back to Aussie ones!
The market is a great way to buy your fruit and veges if you are self catering on a tight budget. The mangos (in season) are not only far cheaper than the Aussie varieties, they are smaller and tastier. And for fj$3-5 for a heap (usually 1/2doz) they are great value.
Attractions At Denarau
Let’s move a little further out of Nadi town, and see what’s on offer. Denarau is only a 10-15min taxi drive away, and will cost as little as fj$1 local bus fare. A taxi will be in the region of fj$12. The mud pools and garden of the sleeping giant is a little further away, but still a reasonable taxi fare of around fj$30. Vuda Point is around that same distance. Or you could choose to add these locations into a PVVTravel Nadi day tour.
Denarau: Bula Waterpark
While entry to the waterpark is not cheap, your kids are going to absolutely love it.
If Covid has some sort of a silver lining, it’s that the price of many tourism related attractions have reduced. the Waterpark is no exception to this.
They have also introduced an “entry only” price of fj$10, so adults don’t need to pay full price just for watching the kids. Hopefully, they keep this pricing once tourism numbers pick up again.
But whether they do or not, the Waterpark will probably never be cheaper than it is now. So this is the perfect time to visit.
Denarau: Marina & Shopping Complex
This is the heart of Denarau. Departure point for water transport to the islands, the complex also has heaps of shopping and dining choices.
The dining options in the complex vary from cheap but delicious burgers, to high end and expensive seafood restaurants.
You will often find some free entertainment in the complex centre, and this is where you can book island day trips and tours.
Check out the “BULA BUS” which does regular round trips from the complex to every resort on the island. You can purchase a day ticket (fj$8) and visit all the resorts in Denarau.
Denarau:Golf Course
Like the Bula Waterpark, this is fairly pricey. Unless you are a golf fanatic, you might not want to spend fj$160 green fees, along with club hire of fj$65, and other associated costs for a round.
But for those that do, you are in for a great time. It’s a beautiful course. The rough is not overly punishing, although there are plenty of water hazards that make up for that!
However, you don’t have to play a round, or even be a golfer to enjoy time at the course. They have a lovely clubhouse, and there is nothing better than sitting outside with a cold drink, watching wayward balls disappear into the watery depths.
The course is on the BULA BUS route, so just hop on the bus to get here. If mini golf is more your thing, then they have that too, as well as tennis courts.
More attractions coming to this page soon. Including Vuda point, mud pools and orchid garden.
